Neuromuscular electrical stimulation
Muscle electrical stimulation (EMS) is a treatment for strengthening and shaping the body's muscles. Electrical impulses via electrodes cause contractions in multiple muscle groups simultaneously. The treatment is a supplement to training and anti-cellulite protocols: it helps with muscle tone, but does not replace regular physical activity.
Electrical muscle stimulation – in brief
| What is being treated | Poor muscle tone, body shaping and toning, cellulite |
|---|---|
| Duration of treatment | 20 to 30 minutes, with muscle warm-up and cool-down |
| Number of treatments | Usually around 6 treatments for visible results |
| Recovery | Not necessary; transient fatigue or mild muscle inflammation is possible |
| Preparation | Not needed |
| Follow-up | Control measurements during a series of treatments |
What is muscle electrical stimulation (EMS)?
Muscle electrostimulation is a modern, non-invasive and unique method for body shaping and toning. The effectiveness of this procedure has been proven by numerous clinical studies. That is precisely why muscle electrostimulation is very popular here and around the world. But what does EMS actually represent? Electromyostimulation (EMS) makes up for all your missed workouts in a very short time. Or, if you haven't exercised until now, you will quickly get into shape and nicely tone your body. It is a special modern device that sends electrical impulses directly to the muscles. These precise impulses enhance natural muscle contractions, making the workout far more efficient compared to standard exercise. During the treatment, the muscles contract similarly to how they do during an intense workout.

All the benefits
There are many benefits offered by muscle electrostimulation. First of all, the treatment takes a short time, only 20 to 30 minutes, including warm-up and muscle relaxation at the end. We live fast-paced lives and most of us barely find the time for a workout of an hour or longer. EMS can be a practical supplement to activity, but it does not replace training, fitness, or nutrition. You do not need any equipment.
- A muscle electrostimulation device (EMS device) emits electrical impulses through electrodes placed on all major muscle groups. This means that during 30 minutes, the entire body is active, or rather, all muscles. The impulses also activate muscle fibres that are harder to engage during conventional exercise;
- Muscle electrical stimulation takes place through small electrodes. This enables more precise “targeting” of the muscle, which induces enhanced contractions and the strengthening of the muscles themselves;
- Multiple muscle groups are active at the same time, activating a large number of muscle fibres. The current from the device causes a contraction, that is, a visible movement and muscle activity;
- Muscle tone increases, and the body is shaped and tightened;
- No recovery time is needed; the intensity is adjusted gradually, and the treatment is not performed if any of the contraindications listed below apply.
Who is muscle electrostimulation intended for?
Electromuscular stimulation was primarily used for the purpose of muscle recovery from injuries and for other medical purposes. With the advancement of technology, it is now one of the most sought-after aesthetic treatments for body shaping and muscle definition. It is intended for everyone who exercises regularly but does not achieve concrete results. These are a lifted buttocks, a toned stomach, toned thighs. EMS is intended for both recreational and professional athletes as a supplementary workout. It is an ideal treatment for all those who want to look good and see real results as soon as possible.
Effects achieved by electromyostimulation
EMS strengthens muscles, firms tissue and contributes to a better skin appearance in cellulite and body contouring. It also improves circulation and contributes to muscle strength and endurance. It is ideal for those who want comprehensive body strengthening and shaping.

Answers to frequently asked questions
What does muscle electrostimulation look like?
During standard workouts, such as gym exercises, running or cycling, it is difficult to isolate a specific muscle group because stronger muscles take over the activity. However, with EMS training, electrical impulses activate all muscle groups simultaneously, allowing for a more efficient full-body workout in just 30 minutes. EMS training also allows for the correction of muscle group asymmetries by balancing contraction strength. The workout includes muscle warm-up in the first 3 minutes and relaxation in the last 5 minutes to prevent soreness, while static exercises are performed for optimal muscle activation.
Is preparation needed for EMS?
No preparation is necessary. All you need is your goodwill and the desire to look and feel better than ever with the help of muscle electrostimulation. During the initial consultation, we measure your body weight, muscle mass percentage, body fat, visceral fat, water percentage, calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) and take body measurements. During the course of treatments, we carry out follow-up measurements to monitor your progress.
If necessary, our doctors create an individual nutrition plan, tailored to the patient's goals. Long-term results are achieved with EMS treatments and a properly balanced diet.
Initial results
After the initial treatments, many patients notice a stronger sense of muscle activity. Changes in tone and shape are evaluated after a series, through control measurements. The result depends on the initial condition, regularity of treatments, physical activity, and diet; EMS is not a weight loss method.
How many EMS treatments are needed?
For visible results, about 6 treatments are usually required. Two treatments a week are recommended.
Is muscle electrical stimulation painful?
No. The electrical impulses feel like a tingling sensation and muscle contractions, and the intensity is adjusted during the treatment. Most patients describe the treatment as pleasant, similar to a relaxing massage.
Is muscle electrostimulation safe?
In individuals without contraindications, EMS is well tolerated when carried out by trained personnel with gradual intensity adjustment. Transient fatigue or mild muscle soreness the following day are possible. Before the first treatment, a doctor checks for contraindications, such as pregnancy, pacemakers, or epilepsy.
How does EMS differ from Emsculpt?
EMS uses electrical impulses that stimulate the muscles via electrodes on the skin, and the intensity is adjusted according to the patient's feeling. Emsculpt it uses a high-intensity electromagnetic field (HIFEM) that operates without electrodes, targeting one region per applicator. These are not the same method with different strengths, but two different technologies with different applications. Which one suits your goal is assessed by a doctor during the examination.
Does EMS replace training?
No. EMS is a complement to regular physical activity and the anti-cellulite protocol. It does not replace fitness training, strength exercises, or nutrition, and it gives the best effect when it is part of a broader plan.
Contraindications
EMS treatment is intended for people over 18 years of age. It is not recommended for pregnant women, people with epilepsy, malignant or heart conditions, diabetes, hernias, bruises or active bleeding. It is important to inform your doctor about all existing medical conditions and treatments you are undergoing.
