Face and neck skin tightening: what Morpheus8 does in the deeper layers

How Morpheus8 tightens the skin of the face and neck — radiofrequency and microneedling for tone, texture and contour. Who the treatment is for, what it looks like and how recovery proceeds.

You stand in front of the mirror, gently pull the skin of your cheeks back and up with your fingers, and for a moment you get back that face from a few years ago. A clearer jawline, a tighter neck, a fresh look. As soon as you let go, everything goes back to normal. If that movement is familiar to you, you also know what bothers you: a softer contour, a milder double chin, and neck skin that has lost its firmness. Morpheus8 is a treatment that targets precisely that. Below, we explain why the skin of the face and neck changes and how Morpheus8 helps with that.

Why are the contours of the face and neck changing?

What you see in the mirror has several causes acting simultaneously.
Beneath the facial skin are fat pads, arranged in layers. Over the years, they lose volume and shift downwards. The upper part of the face thus appears less filled than before, while a sense of heaviness is created in the lower third — a softer jawline and a milder double chin.

Furthermore, the connective tissue and the support that holds everything in place weaken over time, and the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin itself decreases. Because of this, the skin becomes thinner and returns to its original shape less when you stretch it.

The skin on the neck is a different story. It is thinner than the facial skin and has fewer sebaceous glands, so it loses its firmness more easily. The neck is constantly in motion and we rarely protect it from the sun the way we protect the face. Hours spent looking down at a phone further crease the neck skin, which is why horizontal lines appear right there for many people.

What does Morpheus8 do in the deeper layers?

Morpheus8 combines two things in one treatment: microneedling and radiowaves.
Microneedling means that tiny needles create controlled micro-channels in the skin, thereby triggering the regeneration process. With Morpheus8, the needles penetrate deeper than in conventional microneedling, and the depth is adjusted according to the region being treated — differently for the cheek, differently for the neck.

The difference is made by radiofrequency energy. While the needles are in the skin, they release heat into the deeper layers. This heat acts on existing collagen fibres and stimulates the production of new ones, so over time the skin becomes firmer and denser. In the double chin area, the heat can also affect minor fat deposits, making the contour look more defined.

It is important to know how far the treatment goes. Morpheus8 improves skin quality and firmness and acts on the tissue directly beneath it. What it cannot do is restore fat pads to their original position or make up for more pronounced excess tissue. Therefore, it yields the best results for mild to moderate sagging, whereas for more pronounced changes, other options are discussed during a consultation.

You can view a detailed description of the device and all the regions we cover on the page about Morpheus8 treatment.

What does the treatment look like?

It all starts with an assessment. Before anything gets underway, the condition of the skin is evaluated and the depth at which the treatment will be carried out is determined — one for the face, another for the neck.
Then the skin is cleaned and a local anaesthetic cream is applied. It stays on the skin for up to 45 minutes, until the area goes numb. That part is simply waiting, but how comfortable your treatment will be depends on it.

The face and neck treatment itself takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes. As the device moves over the skin, you feel pressure, warmth, and a slight tingling sensation. The neck is more sensitive than the face, so that is usually where it is felt the most. Most people describe it as completely tolerable.

Immediately after the treatment the skin is red and warm, roughly like after strong sun, and sensitive to touch. Some people also experience mild swelling, most often on the morning of the following day. The tiny dots where the needles entered gradually fade.

The redness subsides within 24 to 48 hours for most people, and it can last a bit longer on more sensitive skin. That is why many people book the treatment before the weekend, so they have a day or two of peace.
For the first day or two, avoid makeup, the sauna, the gym, and direct sunlight. After that, you can return to your normal routine.

Treatment effects

Facial and neck treatments most commonly achieve:

  • tighter skin in the lower third of the face and on the neck
  • a more defined jawline and a less pronounced double chin
  • smoother skin texture and smaller, less noticeable pores
  • firmer and denser neck skin, with less pronounced horizontal lines
  • a more even skin tone and a refreshed overall appearance

Because Morpheus8 works with both needles and heat, alongside tightening, the actual quality of the skin is improved — it is not just about the contour, but also about how the skin looks and feels to the touch.

When will the results be visible?

For the first few days, the skin is recovering. There is some redness and mild swelling, and it is precisely this swelling that can give a feeling of tightness which is not the final result. Once it subsides, the skin looks roughly as it did before the treatment — and that is to be expected, it is not a sign that the treatment has failed.

The real result comes later and gradually. New collagen is created over weeks, so skin firmness and quality improve over the next two to three months. Most people notice the first real changes around the fourth to sixth week, most commonly in skin texture, and subsequently in contour.

How pronounced the result will be depends on the initial skin condition, age and lifestyle. For mild to moderate laxity, a single face and neck treatment provides a visible refresh to contours and texture. If the laxity is more pronounced, during your consultation you will be advised whether one treatment is enough or whether you would benefit from an additional one later.

The change is gradual and subtle, so those around you are more likely to notice that you look more rested than they are to suspect you've had anything done.

Is Morpheus8 the right choice for you?

Morpheus8 is best suited for those who have noticed the first or moderate signs of sagging and want a gradual improvement without sudden changes in their appearance.
The treatment makes sense if:

  • the contour of the lower third of your face has become softer
  • do you mind a slight double chin or a less defined jawline
  • the skin on the neck has lost its firmness, with fine horizontal lines
  • you want to improve the skin's texture and firmness, not just the contour
  • you are looking for a treatment after which you can quickly return to your usual routine

If relaxation is more pronounced or there is a greater excess of tissue, Morpheus8 on its own will not deliver the result you expect. In that case, other or combined solutions are discussed during the consultation.

The treatment is not performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the case of an active skin infection, open wounds or herpes in the area to be treated, nor on freshly sun-tanned skin.

Face and neck package

The face and neck form a single unit. When only the face is tightened, the difference with the neck becomes more noticeable, so the most natural result is achieved when both regions are treated together.

That is why at the Imedic face and neck Morpheus8 clinic we perform this as a single treatment covering both regions. The price is listed in price list for lasers and radiowaves.

The first step is a consultation, where the condition of the skin is assessed and a plan is agreed upon.
